Composite Images
This Assignment will be broken down in to two pieces:
1. You will create a composite image made from images you find on the web.
2. You will create a composite image made from your own photos.
Due date: 3/16 (After spring break)
Part 1
Change the meaning of a historical or current event by adding or subtracting information.
Spend time searching for a high quality image.
Make sure your selection and blending techniques are strong. The image should appear as seamless as possible.
The image should be between 5 x7 and 8 x10. Save it as a psd to keep your layers.
Part 2
Create an impossible landscape. Think about ways you can create an unusual space or place through layering elements of photographs which you have gathered. This may begin by choosing an object or shape, and then building upon it. You may use some of the photos you took in the beginning of the semester, or choose to take new ones. Focus on layering techniques and creating visual texture. Experiment with transparency.
The image should be between 5 x 7 and 8 x10 (preferably closer to the latter) and 200 dpi or larger. Save it as a psd to keep your layers. We will print this image in class after the critique.
Mary Lydecker
Think back to our readings a few weeks ago from Bruno Schulz's The Street of Crocodiles. Schulz's writing style was rich and illustrative. See this assignment as a way of making a visual equivalent of Schulz's writing.
