In class tonight (albeit abbreviated due to the weather),we went over uploading images, creating organized files and folders, picasa for online storage, slight image adjustment in Photoshop, and resizing and resampling images. We also learned how to scan objects and documents.
Remember that it is important to always work with high resolution images and scans. It is easy to make an image smaller, but you can't make it larger.
It is important that you are specific when naming files. Always save the original (title.orig), (title.rev1, title.rev2...). Make folders to organize groups of files dedicated to one Image.
We will review this further next week.
Post to your blog:
5 photos
1 drawing
1 object
This is the minimum. You are welcome to post more.
I will be posting a reading to Blackboard, and excerpt from Bruno Schulz's The Street of Crocodiles. I would like you to make line drawings in response to this (at least 3 pages in your sketchbook). Next week we will be scanning the drawings and manipulating them in Adobe Illustrator.

Photographs, Sketches, Objects

Your assignment for next Wednesday's class is to go out and explore. Spend time observing an area of the city that you have not spent much time in before. Build a collection of at least 25-30 photos, 5 sketches, and 5 objects that you find along the way. Look for different things to photograph so that your collection has variety and contrast. Think about the visual layering of beautiful vs. ugly, empty vs. stacked/full, new vs. old, organic vs. geometric, nature vs. man made. Take some photographs from a distance, some up close. These photos, drawings, and objects will serve as raw material for later work.
*****Remember to take photographs in the highest resolution/image size possible********. If you are not sure how to do this on your camera, consult your instruction booklet or email me.
In class on Wednesday we will load the images onto your computers, scan the drawings from your sketchbooks, and scan the objects.
Be prepared to load your images into your computer during class. This means bringing any necessary equipment (usb connector cable or memory card reader) to class with you. You will also need your thumb drive/memory stick and a notebook to take notes. We will be covering much information on image gathering and it will be important that you are able to go back and refer to notes later on.
